PEACE AND HOPE  Rosa Camargo Alvarado  Good Will Embassador Uniletras Colombia Finding peace in the peaceful corners  of innocence, in the perplexity of the night and its fields in peace; in the flowery oasis of the soul, where only the singing water flows, or in the innocent hands of children that surround aromas of smiles. Finding peace in the hustle and bustle of the jungle silencing the rifles for the oblation of verses, and that instead of mines hope is sown and germinates. Finding peace in the quiet cean and not in death so that there are no crosses; peace when observing the sky in the east and a new sun will envelop things. Calm the heart of storms, declare a strike against suffering, and may roses abound in life and its petals mix in cascades. We must find peace in the consciences, in fresh wheat bread and not in the world of slabs. Let's let in the light of dawn diaphanous and simple like the song of the bird, and then the darkness It will only be silence and oblivion.

Hallar la paz en el bullicio de la selva callando los fusiles por oblación de versos, y que en lugar de minas se siembre y germine la esperanza. Encontrar la paz en el océano pacífico y no en la muerte para que no haya cruces; paz al observar el cielo en el levante y un sol nuevo envolverá las cosas. Aquietar el corazón de tempestades, declarar la huelga al sufrimiento, y que abunden las rosas en la vida y sus pétalos se mezclen en cascadas. Hay que encontrar la paz en las conciencias,  en el pan de frescos trigos y no en el mundo de las losas. Why magical? Magical, because we will be magically enriched and empowered by this great Festival, especially, in our belief that we can bring Peace to our World instead of War and Terror, and Love instead of hatred. A few words about IFLAC, before we talk about our magical creation at the Festival. IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace, as it shows in our Logo, believes that the WORD is stronger than the Sword. And over the years, we have proven this in the Building of Cultural Bridges of Friendship that replaced hatred with Love, and enmity with Friendship. Our Peace research, our Peace Anthologies and Books are used in Universities,Colleges and Schools all over the world, they have received many Prizes and were translated into many languages.   IFLAC over its 22 years, has also succeeded in its intensive educational peace-work, through Peace Culture Education in schools and colleges. And our gigantic work in avoiding wars, terror and conflicts all over the world, have proven to be important gifts to humanity. We have a long history in Peace-Making between Nations, I will only mention 5: The influence of IFLAC in the signing of the PeaceTreaty between Egypt and Israel, the stopping of the War in Lebanon - with our Project of the Four Mothers, our long iintensive efforts - that conrinue forcibly in the present - for Reconciliation and Peace between Israelis and Palestinians, our emphatic letters to President Thatcher of the UK, to stop the War in the Falkland Islands, and our present intensive efforts in letters and Videos, to explain to President Putin to go back home to Moscow and leave Ukraine in Peace , as it is a free country and does not want to be under his influence! Over the years we have also organized Peace Congresses all over the world, Conferences and Symposiums for the advancement and empowerment of Women, and for Gender Equality. It includes the strong support today of the global "Me Too" revolution, which is changing our world for the better. We have indeed accomplished a great deal during those 22 years,however, what we are planning for this Festival, is one of the most ambitious IFLAC Project of all! At our present Featival, that started yesterday in Englishsh, and today, it will start in Spanish - we will create together, a new 2023 IFLAC Project called the WCPL "The World Community of Peace Lovers." I am sure that you will agree with me that the Peace Lovers are the largest Community in the World! Who doesn't want Peace? They need Wars to continue so that they can continue to fill their pockets with blood money! However, they are a very small minority in the world, less than 2 percent! And we, the Peace Lovers of the World, are more than 98 per cent! So, why don't we hear the Peace Lovers? We do not hear them because they are not united or organized! He has shifted the Ukraine crisis into a new, more dangerous phase with his last speeches and actions that suggest his ultimate aims go far deeper than extending Russian domination over two separatist regions.   He signed friendship treaties with the so-called Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics proclaimed by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine, in a move denounced as illegal by the West and met with immediate sanctions, including on Russian banks and a major new gas pipeline. His latest lecture looks like an attempt to justify deeper aggression against Ukraine and a total invasion, eight years after he captured and annexed Crimea. He even mentioned he has nuclear arms and would not hesitate to use them!   "He has questioned the right to sovereignty of Ukraine when he declared that it was a historic accident that Ukraine is existing," said Gerhard Mangott, a professor at Austria's Innsbruck University and member of a group of Russia experts that meets yearly with Putin.   "So it's most likely that his final ambition is to destroy this Ukrainian state, or at least make Ukraine divide into two separate halves," he said, with Russia controlling the eastern part of the country. The fact that Ukraine wanted to join Nato, angered Putin, as he considered this action would reduce his domination over the region.   Putin has opened a war against Ukraine, and such a greedy and irresponsible action would endanger not only Europe, but the whole world with a Third World War! En su poema "No Hablen", Aarón describe el dolor sufrido por ambos bandos,   a causa de la violencia, reclamo que parece caer en oídos sordos: ¡NO HABLEN! Los políticos decidieron – “No hablen con el enemigo. ¿Cómo podemos convencer a los líderes violentos a hablar y no disparar? Y lloramos juntos con todos los inocentes de ambos partidos. Cada estrofa es un grito de angustia que oprime a quienes se oponen a la Paz y un reto a los que se atreven a plantar semillas de esperanza deseando evitar la muerte y el derramamiento de sangre. "NO HABLEN" refleja a aquellos líderes que se niegan a tener un diálogo abierto y que silencian a su propia gente. Portadoras de Paz. Horizonte de Esperanza incita a levantarse y demandar paz. En el poema "Quiero Matarte, Guerra", Ada personifica la Guerra que se mantiene como una vil monstruo alimentándose en la propia mesa de los gobernadores del mundo: "Han alimentado tu barriga gorda con soldados y armas nucleares".  Viendo la transformación de la guerra y el terror que causa, Ada clama "No puedes bombardearme más porque yo tengo mi propia fuerza y mi propio negocio creativo de paz."  Las mujeres del mundo se han levantado de su "sarcófago", donde han sido enterradas por los hombres. Ahora están conscientes de que son la mayoría de las ciudadanas en el mundo y que llevan la bandera de la Paz no solo como un derecho sino como un deber. . "Nos enfrentamos a una decisión –“elevarnos a este tiempo y momento -Depende de nosotras. "  ¿Qué es la paz para mí?": se pregunta Ada. “Cuando miro a nuestros hijos de oro y siento la guerra siguiente pellizcando el centro de mi corazón, quiero gritar- "Queremos vivir-no morir". Ese es el deseo de la humanidad   entera.  De ver un mundo lleno de paz. Nos hace preguntarnos si es que seremos como Moisés, que miró hacia la tierra prometida desde lejos sobre el monte Moría, pero sin poder llegar a poseerla ni probar su dulzura.  Antes de morir,   del poema. “Si un caballo blanco de Jerusalén”, Ada expresa su preocupación del tiempo que tendrá que esperar por la venida de la paz tan largamente esperada Tal vez antes de que se me caiga el cabello/Antes de que se caigan mis dientes, Antes de que mi respiratorio silba/  En "Matándonos Suavemente" Ada advierte: “Dejen de pelear, se lastimarán, “Después procedemos a Aniquilarnos con calma- Criamos viudas negras Con ojos rojos en nuestros laboratorios”. En "Visión de mujer", la promoción de la paz es como su segunda naturaleza mostrada en "Siniora: mi nueva amiga en Gaza" cuando Ada visitó Gaza con algunos miembros de IFLAC, antes del primer Intifada. Este poema muestra cuan fácil sería para las mujeres en conflicto lograr la reconciliación a través de puentes de comunicación, entendimiento y amistad.  Después de haber formado una nueva amistad con Siniora, una Palestina en el Museo Palestino en Khan Yunis, Ada escribió este poema que invita los hombres aprender algo de las mujeres:¡Hombres! Aprendan de la mujer, permitan que les mujeres les ayuden a hacer la paz, Hacer amistades.  Con las mujeres es algo natural, fácil de realizar. Ada cree vehementemente que las mujeres son las verdaderas portadoras de paz. En "Una puente de paz", una mujer Israelí llama: Mi hermana árabe.  Construyamos un puente robusto Forma tu mundo de oliva unido al   mío,”Construyamos una puente firme de entendimiento.  de Jasmin" (127). "La paz es una mujer y una madre"  para crear, nutrir, educar y disminuir el conflicto .. es  un ser hábil y una opción lógica para la próxima generación de Portadoras de Paz. De hecho, la paz es una mujer embarazada. La paz es una madre."  El mensaje maravilloso de esperanza que recibimos de este libro hermoso es que depende de todos nosotros: mujeres, hombres, jóvenes y ancianos. Nos toca escribir el capítulo siguiente para poder avanzar y acercarnos a ese horizonte de esperanza donde habita la paz hasta que la contemplemos cara a cara sosteniéndola con nuestras propias manos. Leer  estas poemas poderosas ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora para mi. While sharing her hopes and frustrations, she expresses that every individual can make an impact to make the world a better place now and for future generations. Ada's book first provides poetry on Women and Peace. She emphasizes that "Peace is a Woman and a Mother," one of the most popular poems in the book.  In "Siniora: My Friend in Gaza," she invites men to "learn from women for a change. Let women help you make peace, make friends. With women it is as natural as that." This piece is so moving twenty years after it was published as recent relations between Gaza and Israel have turned for the worse in the recent rocket attacks on November 12th, 2019. Ada advocates for including women in leadership roles and she highlights the caring and sympathetic, yet strong nature of women. Her book transitions to promoting peace with Arab nations. The poems fantasize love and understanding between the neighbors of the Middle East. My favorite poem from this section is "The Sulha * Pomegranate." Ada writes "First tell me, why doesn't the world know that you too and a million other Jews of Arab Lands like you, had to spread their wings wide just like us Palestinians- and flee with the wind and nothing, too?" The Second Exodus truly is an unknown history of the uprooting of Jews from Egypt and other Arab nations during the 1948 creation of Israel. In my own educational experience, the only time in class I was lectured on the Second Exodus, the professor only spoke two or three sentences on it. The briefness is quite shocking, while the focus on the Palestinian uprooting is heavily discussed. One section of the poetry book is allotted to gifted peace poets. The most moving poem is Yehuda Amichai's poem titled Battlefield Rain. It goes like this: "It rains on my friends' faces On my friends faces Blanket-covered heads And on my dead friends' Uncovered faces" Images of a funeral go through my head as I read this. I can feel the immense pain of a friend mourning the death of his or her companion. The title Battlefield Rain implies that the friend was killed in war. The section "You and I can change the World" offers letters and more narratives of personal experiences from uprootedness to brutal terrorism. The final section of the book includes poetry through music in various languages. Ada's poetry book is divided up thematically in a way that keeps you longing to hear the next story. In her new book of poetry, "Horizon of Hope" (2018), published by Gvanim, she has created a collection of her work which welcomes the future of a world BEYOND WAR, with zeal and full of hope. This is one of the first bilingual books of poetry in English facing Hebrew, published in Israel, which is advantageous for people who wish to read the verses in its original English language, as well as to reach a larger international community with her convincing message for peace. When this message is brought in two languages and to two cultures it redoubles its impact and effect.  An additional advantage of having the e English in front of the Hebrew is that it allows the Hebrew reader to improve his English, and it allows the English reader to learn and improve his Hebrew. The reason why Prof. Ada Aharoni wrote her poems in English first, is that she was in an English School from the first lass in Cairo Egypt, where she was born, and after she came to Israel she continued her English studies at the Hebrew University and then she travelled to London and received her English Literature M.Phil. at Birkbeck College at the University of London. Throughout her poems, peace is at the center of her message. Sometimes, this hope for peace is read as a hushed whisper, muffled into silence by oppressive and non-attentive authorities. In her poem "No Talking", Aharoni describes the pain of losing loved ones on both sides of violence and cries which fall on deaf ears which are shown in the following sections: The politicians decided - No talking with the enemy How can we convince violent leaders To talk and not to shoot? And we weep together with all the  Innocent people from both sides, But still, first and foremost - NO TALKING!     Each stanza is separated with a yell of, "NO TALKING!" as if to suppress those who dare oppose the leaders' greed for violence and bloodshed by planting seeds of hope for peace. "No Talking" reflects leaders' refusal to have an open dialogue, smothering their people into silence. Aharoni's book is a journey which follows these hurt people, urges them to rise and demand peace. In "I Want to Kill You, War", her poem personifies War. It shows great disgust for how it is maintained like a vile mascot that feeds from under the governors' table: The governors of the world go on Feeding your fat belly with fresh  Soldiers And nuclear arms, with blurring eyes... Poems are carefully and purposefully placed, creating a narrative which the reader may follow along and see the transformation of war and terror victims as they begin to rise despite their oppressive leaders. Aharoni demonstrates her firm stance against the violence in "You Can't Bomb Me Again": because I don't allow you to bomb me  anymore nor to choke nor rape me anymore, for I have my own strength now and my own creative  peace business now.... The women of the world have arisen from their "sarcophagus", where men have buried them, and now they are conscious of their being the majority of citizens in the world and that they have the power of numbers in the political game, and the assuredness that their cause of wanting to be equal in the running of the world is not only their right, but also democratic. In another poem, entitled: "Year of Hope," instead of waiting for the right leaders, Aharoni demonstrates her strength, showing the readers the way to peace by telling us to claim it. She says: We face a choice - to rise to this  moment in time  And be the Peace we want to see -  It all depends on us, for we Peace - Lovers Are the largest global community! As the founder of IFLAC, she is a personal example that one can create change with others who are willing to make peace and promote it. In her poems, sometimes the hope for peace becomes like a painful human cry holding out its arms for the unseen world peace as in the powerful poem: "What is Peace for Me?": When I look at you our golden children  And feel the next war pinching the center of my heart. There are additional moving cries of the victims of War: "‘We want to live - not die!'". The book represents not only women's desire, but also the whole of humanity's desire to see this world of peace come to pass. It makes us wonder if we shall remain like the Biblical Moses who only looked on from afar from Mount Moriah, seeing the promised land on the horizon, yet never being able to reach it and taste its sweetness. The whole book expresses the opposite, as it clearly impregnates us with this clear and beautiful "Horizon of Hope"! The narrator in "If a White Horse from Jerusalem" expresses her concern on when Peace shall arrive, and she urges peacemakers to bring it soon: Perhaps before my hair falls Before my teeth drop Before my breath whistles Before I go. . . Aharoni shows the reader that War, Terror and Violence bring only destruction, and no benefit to one or the other. It creates a vicious cycle that makes victims of us all. In "Killing Us Softly" she warns where these present conflicts will lead us. War and Violence have nowhere else to lead us but to that place where no one is left standing, we teach our children: "Stop fighting, you will hurt each Other," Then we calmly proceed to annihilate one another. We breed black widows With red eyes in our labs! Aharoni is true to herself and her dream for women and their role for peace, capturing the bravery of women, of mothers who stand united to fight for the better future of their children. One of the effective sections in the book is titled "WOMEN'S VISION," in which women are prized for their natural intuition of love and kindness. Peace is like a second nature to women, as shown in "Siniora: My New Friend in Gaza", when Ada visited Gaza, with a group of members of IFLAC, before the first Intifada. It insinuates the possibility and ease in which women from conflicting lands can bring reconciliation and healing together through bridges of communication, understanding and friendship. In a world of paternalism, men have held power so long, but have failed in the bringing peace. After having created close feelings with her new Palestinian friend Siniora, at the Palestinian Museum in Khan Yunis, her poem calls on men to learn from the example of women: Men! Learn from women for a change Let women help you make peace, Make friends, With women it is as natural, as easy as that. Ada strongly believes that women are the future bringers of peace in this changing world. In a "Bridge of Peace", an Israeli woman calls out:     "My Arab sister, Let us build a sturdy bridge From your olive world to mine" .... Through all her powerful, true, and deeply moving poem, the whole book "Horizon of Hope," speaks to us profoundly and effectively, to you and me, the readers. It gives us the profound vision and hope, as well as example, as Ada writes, to" build a sturdy bridge of Jasmine understanding". Ada continues to show us through her profoundly powerful poem: "Peace Is A Woman and A Mother", that women's natural inclination for nurture and intuition in abating conflict in the home between every member, makes her the expert and logical choice for the next generation of Peace Bringers. For women have arisen and are now ready to give birth to Peace: Peace is indeed a pregnant woman, Peace is a mother. The wonderfully hopeful message we get from this beautiful book is that it is up to us all women and men, youth and children, to create the next chapter of equal responsibility for our planet and for humanity, to gain ground and grow closer to that horizon of hope for peace, until we behold it face to face, and hold powerfully it in our own hands. Reading this powerful and lyrical bilingual book has been a wonderful and enriching experience for me, as Ada Aharoni has excelled in putting into words images and feelings that so many people cry out for in their hearts, but do not know how to express. As a Hebrew language student, this is a brilliant opportunity for me to practice and enrich my Hebrew, while retaining their impressive and profound original English, right beside the beautiful Hebrew. Memory of Tali (1956-2011) A COURAGEOUS DAUGHTER CALLED TALI She had twinkling honey-green eyes and velvety black curls - she laughed in the wind and sang and danced under the trees with the stars Tali, Tali, Tali, Tali "You have breast-cancer that has spread" the doctors curtly said - "Chimio-Therapy all your life!" She stopped laughing in the wind and stopped singing and dancing with the stars Tali, Tali, Tali, Tali "I won't let you poison me anymore!" she firmly said and fled from the Chimio-Therapy trap - to grass-juice, green vegetables and fruit Tali, Tali, Tali, Tali She won, she triumphed!
